Cabinet minister for Information Technology & Communications, AP State (2010 - 2014) As an IT minister his works are admirable. He conducted meetings with many MNCs like Google, Oracle, Facebook, Honeywell and Amazon besides major expansion of Infosys, TCS and WIPRO that aids to better employment in our country especially Andhra Pradesh. He bulldozed the massive move for reali9zation of Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) for the first time in India. He established Hyderabad as the Gaming & Animation Center with collaboration from UK and The Netherlands. The Gaming and Animation Park is established in 2012 with over 40 acres with 350 croresunder the CM Kiran Kumar Reddy. He held Google education platforms which help many students to get dream job. The Warangal Google Map is the 1st 3D- mapping in India which was made with the help of Google. .

Special Economic Zones for Hardware Parks, Software Services & Export

AP has 56 IT SEZs, out of 353 approved IT SEZs in the country, out of which 43 were notified.  The share of AP’s IT exports is 15% of national IT exports during Ponnala term.  IT Employment in AP occupies 12% of national IT employment.  AP sector contributes 0.57% share to the national GDP (National GDP share is 3.38%).  AP ranks 4th in IT performance in the country during Ponnala period as IT minister.  IT contributes to 49% of total exports from AP.

Growth of IT Companies – Number, Employment, Built-up Area and Exports

The square foot usage of the IT companies grew from 3.5 Million SFT in 2010 to 6 Million SFT in 2012, a growth upwards of 70% in just two years!!  The IT employment in the state grew from 264,375 in 2010 to 318,624 in 2012, a growth over 20%.  The IT exports from the state in the state grew from Rs. 33,482 Cr (US 6.7 Billion) in 2010 to Rs. 40,646 Cr (US $ 8.12 Billion) in 2012, a growth of 21% over two years.  There are 1268 companies registered in the state, compared to 194 about 10 years ago.

MeeSeva – bringing Government services to the citizens electronically in a hassle free manner About a Million services to citizens are delivered electronically over years. Ponnala worked incessantly with several MNCs such as Accenture, Amazon, Cisco, Deloitte, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Wells-Fargo Bank etc. to expand their presence and make Hyderabad/AP as their major development/ support center to meet the world-wide business needs.

Aqua Culture & Fisheries minister (1991 - 1992)

During his tenure as the minister for fisheries, Lakshmaiah was committed to making a difference to the 5 Million people who depended on fishing. The state of Andhra Pradesh with a 970 km (600 Mile) coastline presented a huge opportunity for Lakshmaiah and he modernized the systems and assisted the families for better marketing and production of fishing products. Lakshmaiah, through his connectivity with the World Bank earlier, participated as a National Delegate to Asia Pacific Region Countries to study new avenues and mechanisms to establish indigenous Aquaculture and launched the World Bank Aided Projects for Aqua Culture in Andhra Pradesh. He took World Bank’s assistance in developing and promoting shrimp culture and the state of Andhra Pradesh as a result is today the largest exporter of fish and shrimp. He constructed community halls for marine and in land fishermen.
